2025 Spinal Manual Therapies and Exercises Workshop
A learning module for doctors wanting to boost their skills treating spinal dysfunction with a range of targeted manual therapies and exercises
Learn how to:
Apply spinal examination skills in selection of patients and appropriate manual therapies and exercises
Mobilisation techniques in all spinal regions
Manipulation techniques for the thoracic spine
Muscle energy therapy techniques for the cervical spine
Counterstrain and positional release techniques for the cervical spine and chest wall pain.

DATES: Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th July 2025
TIME: 8.30 am – 4.30 pm each day

AAMM Members: $1600
Non-members: $1900
Pre-requisites: Participants have completed the AAMM Assessment and Management Modules in Neck and Upper Back Pain and Low Back Pain (or be able to demonstrate evidence of equivalent education/training in the assessment of spinal pain, to be approved by Convenor on individual basis).
Close of Registration: Sunday 12th July 2025 to allow adequate time for pre-reading requirements.
PRE-READING
The prereading will cover:
revision of gross, functional and surface anatomy of the spine including relevant material from the Certificate in Musculoskeletal Medicine.
the guiding principles of
- joint mobilization
- muscle energy therapy
- counterstrain and positional release
- stretching of muscles and joints
key evidence about the effectiveness of the therapies covered
the concept of irritability of spinal disorders
safety issues in the application of techniques

LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the spinal therapies and exercises module, participants should be able to:
describe how spinal manual therapies and exercises benefit spinal dysfunction.
demonstrate accurate diagnosis of spinal dysfunction through detailed palpation.
apply mobilisation, manipulation, muscle energy therapy, counter strain and positional release techniques to specific spinal dysfunction presentations.
demonstrate the teaching of stretching techniques for spinal pain and tightness.
describe the principles of the safe and appropriate application of all treatment techniques and exercises taught in this module

CPD
A certificate of attendance will be supplied on completion of the module to facilitate claiming of appropriate Education Activity hours and Review of Performance hours.
Applications for CPD hours will be the responsibility of the participants, however the AAMM as a registered education provider will provide certificate of attendance and provide recommendations for the claiming of appropriate hours for the CPD categories of 'Educational Activities', Measuring Outcomes' and 'Reviewing Performance'.
